TOUR DU RWANDA kicked off this morning with Stage 1 of Africa’s Toughest Tour – 115.6 km Kigali >> Rwamagana with the first KOM of the tour (Cat 3) 3.9% and 4km in distance @ 37km into the race. There are 2 Sprint Points opportunities at 49.9km and 88.9km.

The break of the day, which stayed away for most of the day until the final laps, came down to a bunch sprint and Brayan Sanchez from Columbian Team Medellin taking the final win. The King of the Mountains Jersey was won by Muhamed Mohd Zariff from Terengganu Cycling, Points Jersey by Suaza Aranggo from Team Medellin and Best Young Rider Jersey went to Abner Umba Lopez from Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec.

The Best African Rider of the day was ProTouch South Africa’s Gustav Basson, who finished off in 7th position. Andronni Giocattoli-Sidermec took overall honours in the Team Classification.

There are thirty eight Top African riders, from eight African Nations competing alongside riders from twenty three different nations, riding in eight Continental Teams, four National teams, three Pro Teams and one World Tour Team.
