Dayaan Cassiem, captain of South Africa’s Men’s hockey team, was optimistic about their preparations for the African Hockey Road to Paris qualifiers; revealing the pride he and his team feel for being able to represent their nation at an international event.

With the first crucial game against Zimbabwe set for Sunday, October 29th, the South African team captain expressed confidence and excitement about their upcoming matches, knowing that the stakes were higher than ever before.

“I am incredibly grateful to be here and to represent my country. ” said the South African Captain.

Cassiem conveyed his own enthusiasm and gratitude, emphasizing his positive emotions regarding the team’s current preparedness. He also highlighted the team’s rigorous training regimen.

“In terms of the squad, it’s going really well, the boys are working hard. The guys have been running 8kms every day.”

One notable aspect Cassiem emphasized was the team’s unity and continuity. He mentioned that the squad has not undergone significant changes from previous tournaments, indicating a consistent team culture.

“The culture in this team is incredibly good with a bunch of players ready to compete and make the country proud.”

This stability within the team suggests a strong foundation, which could play a crucial role in their performance during the qualifiers.

As the team continues its preparations, the focus remains on the selection process. Cassiem mentioned that the squad is still in the camp, where they are meticulously choosing the players who will represent South Africa in the upcoming matches.

“We are still in camp, where we are selecting 18 players.”

What adds an extra layer of intensity to this tournament is the knowledge that the winner will secure a coveted spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The prospect of competing at the Olympics, the pinnacle of international sports, serves as a powerful motivator for the South African team. With the Olympics on the horizon, the players are not only playing for personal glory and national pride but also for the opportunity to represent their country on the global stage.

The captain’s words reflect not only his personal dedication but also the team’s collective spirit. Cassiem’s excitement about competing and making the country proud resonates with the entire squad.

Their eagerness to showcase their skills and passion for the sport underscores their commitment to bringing honour to South Africa on the international stage.

“We are excited and ready to compete, and make the country proud. ”

South Africa eagerly anticipates the team’s performance on Sunday, October 29, as they embark on their journey towards the Road to Paris.

The South African men’s hockey coach, Cheslyn Gie, shared his excitement and insights into the team’s preparations, stating that they are ready to compete at the highest level under the leadership of Cassiem.

“There are no easy matches at the African Qualifier, we have prepared with the same intensity as we do for a World Cup or other event. We believe we have had a great preparation and can’t wait to play Zimbabwe in our opening game on Sunday. ” said Gie

The nation stands firmly behind their hockey heroes, rallying behind them as they aim for victory and strive to secure a spot in the prestigious Paris Olympics. The stage is set, and the South African Men’s hockey team is prepared to leave a lasting mark in the world of hockey, and possibly, the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
