Men’s Beach Volleyball African Continental Cup Qualifiers for the Olympics, Morocco 2024

3rd/4th Playoffs Update!

  • South Africa 🇿🇦 2-0 Togo 🇹🇬 (21-11, 25-23)

Despite not securing a spot in the Olympics, South Africa’s beach volleyball team clinched a bronze medal at the continental level. This impressive feat earned them a place in the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships, set to be held in Adelaide, Australia.

Rugby

Rugby 7’s Olympic Repechage

In a thrilling final, South Africa defeated Great Britain 14-5 to claim the last qualification spot for the Paris Olympics. The Blitzboks showcased formidable defense, with all points scored in the first half, and held off a late onslaught by GB to secure their place in the Olympics scheduled for July.

International Rugby

The Springboks emerged victorious in an international friendly against Wales over the weekend, continuing their preparations for their upcoming tour later this year.

Mauritius Time Trial Championships

Kim LeCourt claimed victory in the Mauritius time trial championships over the weekend, adding another achievement to her impressive cycling career.

Cricket

ICC T20 Cricket World Cup

South Africa advanced to the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after a nerve-wracking victory over the West Indies by three wickets in a rain-shortened Super Eights match in Antigua. The match, delayed by rain, saw both teams in a tight contest, but South Africa triumphed, successfully chasing the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS method) adjusted target with five balls to spare.

Athletics

World Continental Tour – Madrid

In the 200m category, Wayde van Niekerk, the 400m record holder, emerged victorious, closely followed by his fellow countryman Akani Simbine, who took second place. Both athletes are gearing up for their appearances at the Olympic Games next month.
