In this fiercely contested arena where stamina, speed, and sheer willpower converge, these elite athletes have not only captured hearts but also rewritten records. Their performances in intense races and breathtaking finishes embody excellence, serving as a beacon of inspiration for future generations. Abdelmalik Lahoulou

Abdelmalik Lahoulou, born on May 7, 1992, is a prominent Algerian athlete renowned for his expertise in the 400 metres hurdles.

Holding the coveted number 1 position on the African Rankings for the 400-metre hurdle category, Lahoulou has consistently showcased his prowess on the international stage.

His illustrious career includes multiple gold medals at prestigious events such as the 2015 African Games and the 2019 African Games, as well as victories at the 2015 Military World Games. Notably, he secured silver medals at the 2015 Summer Universiade and the 2022 African Championships in Athletics.

Lahoulou’s personal best of 48.39 seconds, achieved at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, stands as the Algerian national record in the event, surpassing his previous mark of 48.47 seconds set at the 2018 African Championships in Athletics.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Lahoulou is admired for his dedication and commitment to his sport, inspiring athletes both in Algeria and globally.

Wiseman Mukhobe

Wiseman Mukhobe, born on October 13, 1997, is a distinguished Kenyan athlete who holds the second position on the African Rankings for the 400 metres hurdles.

His career highlights include remarkable performances at international competitions such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he clinched a bronze medal as part of Kenya’s 4x400m relay team and finished fourth in the men’s 400m hurdles final.

Mukhobe continued to shine in 2024 by setting a new meeting record at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi on April 20, winning the 400 metres hurdles with a remarkable time of 48.57 seconds. He also contributed to Kenya’s success at the 2024 World Relays Championships in Nassau, Bahamas, competing in the 4x400m relay event. In June 2024, Mukhobe was named as a key member of the Kenyan team for the 2024 Paris Olympics, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in Kenyan athletics.

Ezekiel Nathaniel

Ezekiel Nathaniel, born on June 20, 2003, is an outstanding Nigerian track and field athlete specializing in the 400 metres hurdles.

Known for his rapid ascent in the sport, Nathaniel made a significant mark during his freshman year by setting a new Nigerian record with a stunning time of 48.42 seconds, securing the Big 12 Conference title in May 2022.

His prowess continued to impress on the global stage at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where he advanced to the semi-finals after a strong performance in the first-round heat with a time of 49.64 seconds.

In August 2023, Nathaniel showcased his talent once again at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, reaching the semi-finals and solidifying his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most promising athletes in the 400m hurdles discipline.

 

Zenéy Geldenhuys

Zenéy Geldenhuys, is a distinguished South African athlete renowned for her achievements in hurdling and sprinting.

She specializes in the 400 metres hurdles, where she currently holds the top spot on the African rankings. Geldenhuys achieved significant success as the 2022 African Champion in the 400 metres hurdles and also excels in the 400 metres and the 4 × 400 metres relay, where she helped secure the 2022 African Championship title with the South African women’s team.

Her exceptional career highlights include winning gold medals at the 2017 World U18 Championships and the 2018 World U20 Championships, showcasing her dominance from a young age.

In addition, Geldenhuys earned a silver medal at the Universiade in 2019, further solidifying her status as one of South Africa’s premier athletes and a formidable competitor on the global stage.

 

Taylon Bieldt

Taylon Bieldt, born on November 4, 1998, is a distinguished South African athlete specializing in the 100 metres hurdles and 400 metres hurdles.

She has earned acclaim for her prowess in both disciplines, securing the second spot on the African rankings for the 400 metres hurdles.

Bieldt has amassed an impressive collection of medals at continental level competitions, including both gold and silver medals at the 2022 African Championships.

Her achievements extend to international events such as the Youth Olympics, where she has represented South Africa with distinction.

Bieldt’s dedication and success in hurdling underscore her status as a prominent figure in South African athletics, poised to continue making significant strides on the global stage.

Linda Angounou

Linda Christelle Angounou Ngouayaka, born on September 23, 1992, is a distinguished Cameroonian hurdler who has secured the third spot on the African rankings for the 400 metres hurdles category.

She holds the national record in this event and has showcased her talent on numerous international stages. In 2022, Angounou finished fourth in the 400 metres hurdles final at the African Championships held in Mauritius and also competed at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Her success continued into 2023 with a bronze medal in the 400 metres hurdles at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, and setting a personal best and national record with a time of 55.94 seconds in Troyes.

Angounou’s medal tally expanded with a bronze at the 2023 African Games in Accra, running 56.41 seconds. Her achievements highlight her as a leading figure in Cameroonian athletics, known for her determination and exceptional performances in hurdling events.
