Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon

Kenyan Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon, born on January 10, 1994, takes the number one spot on the rankings as the current world record holder for both the 1,500 metres and the mile, achievements she secured in 2023. Kipyegon is a formidable middle- and long-distance runner, having also held the world record for the 5,000 metres.

Her stellar career is highlighted by gold medals in the 1,500 metres at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as well as at the 2017, 2022, and 2023 World Athletics Championships. She also clinched gold in the 5,000 metres at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

As a junior, Kipyegon demonstrated her prowess by winning gold at the 2011 and 2013 World Cross Country Championships and in the 1500 metres at the 2011 World Youth Championships and the 2012 World Junior Championships.

Her outstanding contributions to athletics earned her a spot among the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2017.

Diribe Welteji Kejelcha

Diribe Welteji Kejelcha, born on May 13, 2002, is an Ethiopian middle-distance runner who has steadily climbed the ranks to claim the second spot on the African Rankings. Her rise to prominence has been marked by a series of impressive performances and unwavering dedication to her sport.

In 2023, Welteji showcased her extraordinary talent by winning the silver medal in the 1500 metres at the World Championships, solidifying her status as one of the top middle-distance runners in the world. Welteji’s journey began at a young age; at just 16, she captured the world’s attention by winning the 800 metres at the 2018 World U20 Championships, setting a new championship record in the process. Her remarkable performance continued with a silver medal in the 1500 metres at the 2021 World U20 Championships, highlighting her consistent excellence and potential.

In 2022, she continued to impress by earning the silver medal in the 800 metres at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, further demonstrating her versatility and prowess across different middle-distance events.

Abel Kipsang

In the dynamic realm of African Men’s Rankings for the 1,500-meter category, Abel Kipsang emerges as a formidable force, seizing the coveted number one spot. Born on November 22, 1996, in Kenya, Kipsang is a distinguished middle-distance runner renowned for his prowess in the 1,500 meters.

His remarkable journey in the sport includes a notable fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, showcasing his exceptional talent on the global stage. Further solidifying his status as a top contender, Kipsang clinched the bronze medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships held in Belgrade, affirming his remarkable skill and unwavering dedication to excellence.

His meteoric rise is marked by a series of impressive accomplishments, starting with a remarkable second-place finish at the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia, in the U20 race. Following this triumph, Cheruiyot continued to dazzle, claiming gold in the 1500m at the African U20 Championships in Ndola, Zambia, in April 2023.

His exceptional talent earned him a spot at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, where he showcased his prowess by qualifying for the final and finishing eighth. Cheruiyot’s prowess knows no bounds, as evidenced by his record-breaking performance in September 2023, where he set a new under-20 world record for the mile, clocking an impressive time of 3:48.06 at the Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon.

Cementing his status as a force to be reckoned with, Cheruiyot clinched victory at the Kip Keino Classic in Kenya in April 2024, completing the 1500 meters in a remarkable time of 3:31.96. His stellar form persisted as he secured a podium finish, claiming third place in the fiercely contested 1500 meters at the 2024 Doha Diamond League event in May 2024.

Cheruiyot’s relentless pursuit of excellence and consistent podium finishes underscore his status as one of the most promising talents in the world of middle-distance running.

Vincent Keter

Claiming the esteemed third spot on the rankings is Vincent Keter, a rising star hailing from Kenya. Born on March 11, 2002, Keter has swiftly made his mark in the world of middle-distance running, with a specialization in the fiercely competitive 1500 meters.

His meteoric rise to prominence was highlighted by a sensational performance at the World Athletics U20 Championships in 2021, where he clinched the gold medal. Keter’s victory not only underscores his exceptional talent but also signals the arrival of a formidable contender in the global athletics arena.
